12 Valencia CF players are hoping to be at the 2018 FIFA World Cup in Russia

From June 14 through to July 15, all eyes next summer will be on Russia, who host the next FIFA World Cup. There is still plenty of time before the summer feast-of-football, but no getting away from the fact that, for any player, participating at the world's biggest football event is the icing on the cake at the end of the domestic campaign.Valencia CF  have 12 players present in Russia representing their national sides.

In the latest round of international call-ups, Valencia CF boasted four players being selected for duty by their respective national team managers: Rodrigo Moreno, Gonçalo Guedes, Maksimovic and Simone Zaza. They are augmented by Carlos Soler and Toni Lato who received a call-up for the Spanish U-21 team. Valencia CF could have 12 players in action in Russia next summer but still, there are still many factors in dictating which players make it onto their national team's 23 man squad list ahead of the competition. Valencia CF's current rich vein of form with distinguished performances from various squad members could be decisive with the Russia World Cup just around the corner.

Spanish representation

Rodrigo Moreno, who is set to feature in Tuesday's friendly match for Spain against Russia has been called up for duty by national team coach Julen Lopetegui on the past two occasions. The player has been on target on nine times this season, with one of his goals coming for “La Roja”, but his contribution on the pitch goes far beyond mere statistics.

Aside from Rodrigo, Lopetegui maintains a keen eye on four players from the club who were included in a pre call-up long list and includes: Dani Parejo, José Luis Gayà, Martín Montoya and Carlos Soler.

Guedes shines with the Portuguese national team

Gonçalo Guedes has been in dazzling form with the Portuguese national team. In last Friday's friendly against Saudi Arabia, the player bagged his first full international goal, complimenting his previous full first-team call-up. His excellent performances with Valencia CF this season have enabled him to make the step up after already being a key player in the Portugal U-21 side. Fernando Santos' men face the U.S. national team on Tuesday in an international friendly. The Portuguese manager said that "Guedes can occupy any attacking role  which can't be classified as a winger and the World Cup  doors are open  for him.

Maksimovic, with Serbia

Coinciding with his introduction to life in LaLiga, Nemanja Maksimovic has become as regular in recent Serbia national team squads. This Tuesday, the Balkan nation face South Korea in an international friendly.

Other Valencia CF players with an eye on Russia 2018

Other national teams who could feature Valencia CF players in their ranks next summer are Brazil, Argentina, Colombia and France. Both Neto and Gabriel Paulista both last featured for the Brazilian national team in 2015, but their solid respective LaLiga campaigns have placed them back in the spotlight as the World Cup draws closer. The defender has yet to earn a full international cap despite receiving call-ups on numerous occasions.

Jeison Murillo is another key nominee to receive a call-up to return to the Colombian national team, as the player himself acknowledges that he's experiencing a fine run of league form. Despite his last international experience being back in November 2016 in a match against Argentina, his current displays have propelled him back into consideration for the national side, a situation not dissimilar to that of Kondogbia with the French national team and Garay, who hopes to wear the Argentina national team shirt once again.
