Being a Valencia CF supporter these days is pretty cool with an excellent start to the season, beyond the wildest dreams of even the most optimistic fan. Today more than 500 loyal supporters, of which, 462 secured their match ticket with the club's new on-line reservation system, enjoyed the team's eighth consecutive league win as Marcelino's side staked their place in the history books. Records are falling with the passing of each match with the next objective being that of equalling Rafa Benítez' record from the 2001/02 campaign when Valencia CF went on a 13 game unbeaten run.
The stark difference between both teams is the 8 extra points that the current side have accrued with their 9 LaLiga wins and three drawn games. In the 2001/02 season, the team were third after cementing 5 wins and 7 draws and went on to remain unbeaten through to match-day 13 with a 0-0 draw at home to CD Tenerife. To remain on track, it's important that Marcelino's men don't lose to FC Barcelona next Sunday at Mestalla in a game destined to sell-out with just 1.000 match day tickets remaining. Who would want to miss this one?
This is the club's best ever start to a LaLiga season with a 30 point tally and only the Valencia CF team from 1943/44 can come close to this register securing 20 points, which would translate to 29 points in the current 3 points for a win system (9 wins, 2 draws and one defeat). How did that Valencia CF side finish the campaign? By securing the league title come season end!
