David Villa:"I hope Valencia CF can stay up there fighting for the trophies "

The Guaje Villa was the standout interviewee at the Som Passió on VCF Radio in the run up to the Valencia CF – FC Barcelona blockbuster between two of the clubs he played at before heading off to the MLS in the New York City. David Villa played at Valencia CF for five seasons at the club and predicted Marcelino’s upturn in the dynamics.

“I was sure that Marcelino would flip the team and the club upside down; it boils down to sticking the ball in the back of the net as I said and I stand by it. Watching Valencia CF play you know they’re going to be up there, I hope they can stay up there fighting for the trophies.

They’re the two most in-form teams in Spain, not only table-wise. Valencia CF have an edge over Barça by playing at home with the fans roaring them on. May the best team win because I hold them dear.

I’m not surprised about Marcelino’s numbers we’ve been knowing each other from his first stint as headcoach. It was one of our first experiences as professionals at the Sporting Gijon B team.  As soon as he signed for Valencia CF I said that I was fully convinced that he would change the team and the club’s direction with positive results.

Marcelino knows really well how to play it to their strengths, Messi is always on stunning form an in order  to shut down Barça  you’ve  got to shut down their most instrumental player but it’s really hard to work out how to stop him.

My years at Valencia CF were the happiest years in my career, I was always happy on the pitch and I had plenty more memories and I have fond memories from my spell at the club for everything I went through and the fun I had.”
