Marcelino: “What we have to do to get good results is to maintain the bond between the team and the fans"

Unity is the most important factor after the club's recent defeat versus Getate

Marcelino served the second game of his touchline suspension at Getafe’s Coliseum Alfonso Pérez on Sunday, where his Valencia CF side suffered their first competitive defeat since his appointment as boss in the summer.

The unbeaten run had stretched 15 games without defeat, with 13 of those coming in LaLiga and two arriving courtesy of the Copa del Rey, which such form allowing the club to currently sit in second place in the league’s standings. The technical staff want to be as ambitious as possible, while also maintaining the team's humble side and treating every game as though it is a cup final.

Marcelino featured on Radio Marca on Monday afternoon, where he stressed the importance of the relationship between his team and Valencia’s fanbase, “maintaining this bond is what is going to get us good results. The most intelligent thing to do, from my point of view and as the spokesperson for the squad, is to try and convince the fans to enjoy what’s happening and we will show the same ambition in every game. What I feel is that the fans are very happy and they like the team as they show ambition, attitude, they like how they play and that every player is competitive.”

LaLiga’s next stop for Valencia comes on Saturday at Mestalla (20:45CET), against Celta Vigo. Marcelino went on, “everything is going far better than hoped. If you had said at the start of the season that after this match day we would have won nine games, drawn four and lost one, with the defeat coming last, we would have all gone for it, it is something that seemed unthinkable. We have done very well and we intend to continue in the same vein.”
