Anil Murthy: “We are on the right track; the medium to long-term aim is to always finish near the top”

Anil Murthy, who became Valencia CF president on July 1st, has spoken to VCFplay some six months later about the changes and the ambitious project now in place at the club. He is “optimistic” and points out “important changes” made to “get things back on track” and allow the club to finish 2017 in third place in LaLiga. Also, he placed importance on building up the relationship between the club and the fans again, without any intermediaries, as well as the work done by the club’s academy and the general sustainability of the project.

A message for the fans

“We are going to speak daily with the fans, to share with them what we are doing every day. This is the path that we’re going to take. I want to tell the fans to trust in the club, that we are working to improve things and give them joy.”

Mestalla and the bond between the team and their coach

“We suffer, we argue and we could fall one day, but we are all together to support the team and the coach - and this is something very important. I don’t want to see anything like last season again.”

Philosophy and the running of the club

“In general, we want to reinforce the pride of the club, to respect it and to give it its own voice. The harmony at every level inside the club is excellent, and in the big decisions with the majority shareholder. “

Transfer window and ins and outs

“We are working in the winter transfer market to reinforce the squad, but we aren’t making signings for the sake of it and we are always looking at the long term."

Sporting aims and the long term

“We are on the right track, the aim medium to long term is to always finish near the top, while being a sustainable club.”

The academy is key

“The academy is the future of the club, we have very good talents, today the academy is very strong and in the first-team squad we have key players like Carlos Soler, Lato, Gayà, Nacho Vidal, Nacho Gil… and now Ferran Torres too. We have to put more faith in the academy."
