Valencia CF finish as runners-up in the 22nd LaLiga Promises tournament in Arona

A solitary goal from FC Barcelona’s Gerard Hernandez was enough to see Valencia CF finish runners-up in the 22nd international LaLiga Promises tournament in Arona. Despite the result, Toni Lopez’s side fought until the very end, and they can return home with their heads held high.

In the first half, Valencia CF came out very well and pressed high, forcing FC Barcelona to play long balls forward. As the game progressed, the opposition had more possession, but it wasn’t to turn into many clear-cut opportunities, aside from a header from Cristo following a free-kick delivery. Valencia looked for the opener with long-range shots, but they had no luck.

It was a very even final, but the deadlock was broken in the second half, when Gerard Hernandez hit the back of the net with the Blaugrana’s first shot on target. That goal pushed Barcelona on further, but a great save from Vincent was to then deny Molina. Both teams had their chances, with Ivan Villar having a particularly good one inside the area, as Valencia ended the game still searching for an equaliser down to their goalkeeper’s great contributions - but they couldn’t find it.

Coach Toni Lopez summed up the game, and was honourable in defeat: “we have played against a great team in FC Barcelona, and they are the deserved winners.”
