Ruben Uria: “We are excited and have a lot of hopes riding on the Copa del Rey”

Ruben Uria, Valencia CF’s assistant manager, spoke at the club’s Media Centre at Paterna to answer questions from the press ahead of Wednesday’s Copa del Rey game versus UD Las Palmas.

How is Marcelino?

“He is still coming to terms with the big scare, we hope that in the coming days he will be involved in the daily routine again. We speak a couple of times a day and he is already in quite good spirits.”

The Copa del Rey is back and Marcelino has said that he wants to go as far as possible in this tournament. Is the team prepared to play in both competitions without losing momentum in LaLiga?

“This is our intention, we are looking forward to it and we’re excited. We are excited to keep going on in the cup, we have a lot of hopes resting on it. We will go step by step, the match squad will be one that is capable of getting a good result, and in the future we don’t know how the games will go, but we are excited to keep going forward. We are capable of playing in both competitions.”

What opposition are you expecting after the arrival of Paco Jemez?

“He has had a new signing arrive, but the change of coach is going to give them extra intensity, they want to please the new manager and we have to be prepared. The journey and the timetable is different to usual, but we are prepared for these commitments, keeping in mind that this is an 180-minute game.”

In January there is the league and the cup, is the team ready or will you hold any players back?

“We aren’t holding anything back, there are two players that can’t play on Sunday due to suspension, but we aren’t thinking about Girona FC. We want to take a positive result, if we can win that would be best and we are travelling with this hope. We are only thinking about this knock-out game in the Copa del Rey versus UD Las Palmas.”
