Valencia CF are among the 30 most powerful teams in the world financially

When Meriton arrived at Valencia CF in 2014, the club was given financial backing. According to a study made by Soccerex in 2018, the club is now in the top 30 in world football financially, occupying the 29th place in a list that is topped by Manchester City.

The study, which looks at clubs across every continent, has used an innovative method to analyse the things which go into financial muscle. It focuses on the squad, the assets of the club (stadiums, training facilities and other property), liquid assets, net debt and investment up until the present, as well as the potential for future investment. Valencia CF find themselves in 29th place, with Manchester City leading the way, followed by Arsenal and PSG. Among the top 100 clubs, there are only four LaLiga teams: VCF, Real Madrid, FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid.

According to Soccerex, Valencia CF is one of the Spanish clubs that has enjoyed the most success in the country, having won six league titles, seven Copa del Reys, as well as reaching two Champions League finals at the turn of the century. They estimate that Valencia CF is the team with the third-most supporters in Spain. Peter Lim became the club’s majority shareholder (83%) in 2014, and his financial capital is one of the main reasons why Valencia CF feature in the “Soccerex Football Finance” top 30 in 2018.
