A year since Toni Lato's LaLiga debut

The full-back made his debut in the Primera División away at CA Osasuna and he keeps that shirt in a special place in his room

Making your LaLiga debut is always special, even more so when it happens to an academy player that has been there since he was a child who has made his dream come true. This Tuesday marks a year since Toni Lato made his LaLiga debut on January 9th2017 away at CA Osasuna (3-3) with Voro on the bench.

It was not easy, with Valencia CF sitting three points above the relegation zone; it is a game that he will never forget despite having already made his first team debut on February 25th 2016 against Rapid Vienna. It was a tight game but Lato was raring to play, as he showed when Voro told him to warm up on the 30th minute mark without the bib on! Fortunately, they warned him about it.

Lato came on at half time replacing Siqueira. He was paired up with Mangala, focusing on the defensive duties over the offensive. He prevented Sergio León from scoring the third goal of the night and right after the final whistle the first thing he did was text his dad “we're definitely going to get out of this situation".

The number 26 shirt is in a safe place. Another special game for Lato was the game against Real Madrid from last season because he featured in the closing minutes of the game which marked his 10th appearance. Now, with the number 15 on his back which he wore in the first leg, providing an assist to Rodrigo Moreno.

Lato has settled into the team and he is looking forward to help the team progress to the next round in the Copa del Rey.
