Maksimovic: “When Mestalla clapped me off the other day, it was great for me”

The Serbian central midfielder feels more comfortable in the team with every day that passes

When a player receives a standing ovation when heading off the field of play, he is bound to feel as though he did his job very well. Nemanja Maksimovic got his latest confidence boost midweek in the Copa del Rey versus Las Palmas, and has now already participated in three Valencia CF games in 2018. Two of them came as starts, and he is sure to start again on the weekend versus Deportivo due to the upcoming suspension of Geoffrey Kondogbia. Bit by bit, he is getting more used to the club, the league and the language.

For Marcelino, his central midfielders are key for giving balance to his team, both in a defensive and offensive sense. Since his arrival, Maksimovic has had Spanish classes three times a week, and it is helped him greatly: “I have had a few months to adapt, learning the language and I already understand everything. The first few months were tough,” he explained.

“I have worked hard every day and I have also learned tactically what the coach wants from me,” Maksimovic continued, while ensuring that he shows that he is willing to make sacrifices, remain humble and try to continually better himself both tactically and physically.

“I try to not try to risk anything with my passing, I always opt for the safer ball. But the words from the boss have calmed me down, I have played a few games in a row and this is good for me. When Mestalla clapped me off the other day, it was great,” he said.
