Valencia CF have drawn Deportivo Alaves in the quarter-final stages of the Copa del Rey

Valencia CF will face up against Deportivo Alaves in the quarter finals of the Copa del Rey, with the first leg of the tie being played at Mestalla next week.

The ball with our name on took a while to come out, but Voro was the man to do it. “Most importantly, we have avoided the big teams, but it is not going to be an easy tie. Last season they pulled off a heroic upset by getting to the final,” he explained.

Marcelino followed the draw in full from the dressing room, and heard the shouts when Atletico Madrid were drawn against Sevilla, which left Valencia to front up against Alaves.

What do you make of the Copa del Rey draw?

"It has been a draw that we haven't come out of feeling hard done by, they are a team that we would have picked as an opponent, but I believe that being the favourites doesn't book your place in the semi finals. Any team can surprise you, Deportivo Alaves have a good record in the cup after last season, and for this reason we have the utmost respect for them. We will come into the two games with the most ambition we can muster, with the aim of getting to the semi finals.

There are a lot of hopes riding on this competition...

"The Copa del Rey excites people, we believe that we have a good team, that we are capable of going forward and we go into this tie with belief, with the idea that every game is a final for us. With the utmost respect and humbleness, we are going to try and knock out Deportivo Alaves."

The first leg will be at Mestalla, what do you think of that?

"This is how it has turned out, and we accept that. For us to play in Mestalla, playing there in the second leg is an added bonus, but in this situation it will be our first game, I don't think it will decide the tie."
