Gayà reaches 100 LaLiga appearances at Riazor

Since making his LaLiga debut, the Pedreguer full-back has made it clear that he's here to stay, and is now one of the team captains

The Valencia CF left-back has now reached his 100th LaLiga appearance since making his debut on the 27th of April 2014 against Atletico Madrid at Mestalla (0-1). He has steadily worked his way up at his boyhood club, to the point of now reaching the milestone figure of 100 appearances in the Spanish top flight. He could not get the win on his debut, but he made clear that it was not going to be a fleeting appearance - he came into the first team to stay. Those 100 games have flown by at breakneck speed for him.

Gayà was the player with most ball recoveries on the day of his debut, getting to the byline and delivering up to seven crosses into the box, showing his skills in attack, and taking on Raúl García in one-on-one situations, who congratulated him on his marking inside the tunnel. He had previously made his Copa del Rey debut, but ”I really wanted to keep that shirt, as it is one of the most significant shirts of my career”.

Another memorable game for Gayà was the day he got himself off the mark at Mestalla against Córdoba in a game which ended up in a 3-0 win. That win lifted Valencia CF into the LaLiga top spot three years later. It was a magical night in front of the delighted home fans.

Despite his youth, other big LaLiga nights bring back plenty of happy memories like on the 4th of January when Valencia CF picked up a 2-1 win at Mestalla, he made a goalscoring assist by making a deft diagonal run before rolling it into Barragán. He did not start in that back five line, but he was the standout player that brought the 22 winless run to an end at home against Real Madrid.

He has reached his century of LaLiga appearances across five seasons after introducing himself against Atletico Madrid. He has turned into a pivotal figure for the coaches, despite going through two tough seasons. With 17 appearances this season, he is helping to bring Valencia back where they deserve, him being one of the team captains.
