Coquelin shows a lot of confidence on his Valencia CF debut

Marcelino decided to start Coquelin with only two training sessions as a Valencia CF player. As Marcelino himself said in post-match press conference, he performed at a great level both on the ball and in his defensive duties. He was substituted with only seven minutes left to play. Martin Montoya replaced him as he suffered from cramp. Montoya played at right back, and Maksimovic filled his role in midfield.

Coquelin shared a hug with former Arsenal teammate Lucas Perez when he took to the field ahead of kick-off. He was paired up with Parejo who advised him not to focus only on his defensive duties. He was really switched on from the opening whistle. Two minutes into the first half, he headed away a wicked Lucas Perez ball, getting the ball back on many occasions. When on the ball he tried to play a simple pass and when in danger he cleared the ball straightway. He also offered support to his teammates, allowing them to break down opposition lines and venturing forward.

Coquelin had a 90% pass completion rate, creating chances and getting himself involved in the game, making 50 passes which goes to show his great level of confidence with only two training sessions completed.
