A dream first half of the season for Valencia CF and Marcelino

The coach has his highest points tally after 19 games with 40, a total only bettered by the double-winning side

“The first half of the season has been almost perfect, we have to try to get another 40 points in the second half, the team is full of optimism” said Gayà after the game ended at Riazor. What the team is doing deserves a lot of credit, achieving a points total only bettered by the double-winning Valencia team, which got 43 points in the first half of the campaign with Rafa Benítez on the bench.

The dressing room is excited, as Gayà says, but Valencia CF want to maintain the values that have got them this far, with humility and hard work, competing in every game until the end. “Ending the first half of the season with 40 points gets us closer to where we want to be, but it will get harder, and now we have to prepare for the Cup game against Deportivo Alavés. The Champions League? For us the main target is to win the next game, first in the cup and then against UD Las Palmas, to stay on track, we can’t be tempted to look further ahead” said Rodrigo, one of the goalscorers at Riazor.

Marcelino’s best first half of the season in the top flight

One of those responsible for the fantastic performances of Valencia CF this season is the coach, Marcelino García Toral, who, with 40 points gained, has also broken his personal record, with his best first half of a LaLiga season in the top flight, overtaking the 39 points he got with Villarreal CF in the 2015-16 season.

Parejo and Gayà are suspended for the LaLiga game in Las Palmas

There were three players under threat of a ban and two of them received yellow cards, Parejo and Gayà won’t be able to play the next LaLiga game (Saturday 20th against UD Las Palmas), as they’ll be suspended.
