A special game for Coquelin at Mestalla

It will be his home debut against Zinedine Zidane’s side, the man who he considers to be the best French player of all time

When Francis Coquelin was seven years old, the French national team won the 1998 World Cup, with Zinedine Zidane at the heart of it. The new Valencia CF player has always counted Real Madrid’s current manager as one of his idols, alongside Ronaldinho due to his spell with Paris Saint-Germain. Like a lot of children from that era, Coquelin dreamed of being like Zidane, and now he is among the elite.

The Frenchman arrived at Valencia CF at the start of January, and he is already enjoying himself in LaLiga. He has learned that the football is more technical than in the Premier League, although he did join from a club who likes to play good football themselves. On Saturday, he will face up against a team managed by his idol, who he considers to be “the best French player of all time.”

It will not be a normal game for Coquelin, Marcelino has already picked him and he will be making his debut at Mestalla. So far, he has been involved in the 2-1 against Deportivo Alaves in the Copa del Rey, and has started in Valencia CF’s two recent away games against UD Las Palmas and Deportivo La Coruna.

Owing to the defensive absences this weekend, as Marcelino shared in his press conference, he will be the man to line up alongside Ezequiel Garay in defence: “he is the best option to play in this game.”
