A great defence and breaking on the counterattack, Gayà’s keys to face Barça

Work-rate, humility and maximum respect, Valencia CF start preparations ahead of the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey first leg.

The dressing room already have  the Copa del Rey on, a few hours later from their LaLiga meeting against Real Madrid but facing  FC Barcelona in a Copa del Rey semi-final requires full focus. José Luis Gayà’s face shines when people talk about replicating the 2008 milestone which saw Valencia CF lift their latest piece of silverware “It was a nice memory” said in an interview with VCFplay.

The Valencia CF full-back has come up against FC Barcelona on nine occasions as a professional. He has picked up a 1-2 win at the Camp Nou in 2016, now it is a tie and as Gayà himself admits the first leg will prove to be key."If we manage to come away with a good result I can’t imagine what Mestalla will be like if we come back alive in the tie”.

All the players are conscious that it is not going to be an easy tie but as Gayà pointed out”we came really close to beating them this year".The scoreline reflected a 1-1, after nullifying Jordi Alba in the 82nd minute leading up to Rodrigo’s goal. In order to do so Valencia CF will have to be great in defence and breaking on the counterattack, said Gayà who is not hiding the allure of excitement that the cup is generating amongst the players a trophy we want to fight for and we see ourselves with options".
