Ezequiel Garay leaves Mestalla on crutches

The central defender suffered a hamstring tear and will be put through tests to determine its severity

A counter attack from FC Barcelona in the 68th minute of Valencia CF’s 0-2 defeat at Mestalla on Thursday, saw Ezequiel Garay pull up. The Argentine defender went to ground and received treatment immediately, with his hands clearly clutching at the hamstring of his left leg, before being stretchered quickly off the field of play.

After a first investigation in the dressing room, as Marcelino explained: “we will see what he has, but it is definitely a hamstring tear, but we still don’t know how serious it is.” Garay left the stadium at the end of the night on crutches.

Garay was not the only player to end their evening in discomfort, with both Rodrigo Moreno and Francis Coquelin forced off due to their own respective injury problems. The defender’s issue, however, looks to be the most serious: “the injury to Garay could be a lot longer recovery.” In the coming hours, medical tests will be carried out to discover the severity of all of these injury complaints.
