Coquelin trains with his teammates to be ready for the derby

Francis Coquelin doesn’t want to miss his first chance to get involved in a Valencia derby, with the Frenchman featuring in the last training session before the big game on Sunday. After picking up a minor injury against FC Barcelona midweek, Marcelino shared on Saturday morning that the midfielder would still be named in the match day squad, and he completed the full evening session.

Before training, there was the usual initiation for a few players, as well as the club nutritionist Jonathan Gomez due to it being his birthday. The strong bond between the group is one of the big reasons behind Valencia CF’s good season so far, and as Gabriel Paulista shared on social media recently: “All together with the same objectives.” After the Copa del Rey, the onus is now placed on LaLiga, where the aim will be to finish as high in the standings as possible.

After their considerable efforts on Thursday evening, the players were put through a session that focused mainly on ball work. Firstly, they had to get involved with some possession exercises, before finishing up with some shooting in small goals and then a match on a reduced pitch.

Club president Anil Murthy and general director Mateu Alemany followed the session on Saturday evening. While the players warmed up, Anil spent some time speaking with Marcelino and gave him his encouragement ahead of the big game on Sunday versus Levante UD. Valencia CF are looking to pick up three points to help them maintain their current position in third place.
