Anil Murthy: “It sets an example that both fanbases are together”

Valencia CF and Levante UD presidents, Anil Murthy and Quico Catalan, went along to a dinner held for both clubs’ fans

United by their passion for football. Valencia CF club president Anil Murthy and his counterpart Quico Catalan went along to a dinner organised by Valencia CF’s Penyas, where the fanbases of both teams ate together ahead of the city’s derby fixture on Sunday evening.

“It sets an example that the fans of two big clubs from the same city are together, we have a very good relationship between the two clubs and so do the fans. I congratulate Valencia CF’s Agrupacio de Penyes for setting this up, for bringing the two sets of fans together and later they will go to the stadium. We are setting a very good example for football in general, away from the game itself we can celebrate our passion for football together. Everyone can learn from this, in football there can be great friendships,” Anil Murthy explained.

Levante UD president Quico Catalan gave his thanks to the events’ organisers and to Valencia CF: “This is a real example of two great fanbases in brotherhood, united and responsible, they are giving an example of how to coexist, of fair play, to experience a special game with this event. I would like to thank all of the fans for showing how you can co-exist. We are more than capable of this, this is a healthy rivalry, or fraternity, the ability to coexist and to know how to act.”

There wasn’t an agreement on who would take the three points at Mestalla, however: “I hope that the best team wins tonight, I hope and I’m sure that it will be us,” Anil Murthy explained.

Juan Manuel Mateos, the president of Aficiones Unidas (United Fanbases), highlighted the important of such a dinner: “it is a necessary event, it sets an example of what it means to be a fanbase. More things unite us than separate us, coming together is a way to experience football and sport in general.”

Mikel Barrachina, the president of Levante UD’s fan groups thanked those who organised the dinner and extended the invitation: “to come to our home in the coming season.” Manolo Sanahuia, the man in charge of organising within Valencia CF’s fan groups shared his thoughts too: “There is unity, I want the best team to win and for that to be Valencia CF. From the next match, I hope Levante UD win their games to achieve survival. Amunt Valencia CF!”

Just as they did in the first round of fixtures, both fanbases will eat together and enjoy a lunch to show that there is togetherness between both sets of supporters on derby day.
