Santi Mina scores his 12th goal of the season and is now level with Rodrigo

The young Spaniard has scored in three of his last four league games and helped Valencia CF to derby delight

Marcelino chose to give Santi Mina a start on Sunday evening, and he repaid his manager’s faith by netting his 12th goal of the season. After going close with his head early in the game against Levante UD at Mestalla, he made no mistake on 16 minutes to divert a corner delivery home and give VCF the lead.

In the 29 games that he has featured in this campaign, Santi Mina has scored 12 goals, with nine of those coming in LaLiga. The former Celta Vigo striker now sits level with the squad’s top goalscorer, Rodrigo Moreno, while Simone Zaza still has the most league goals with 10.

Mina could have had more, after striking the crossbar from a Jose Gaya cross, as well as hitting the foot of the post with another late effort after dancing around a defender. Across the 90 minutes, he completed 93.3% of his 15 passes, and had three shots on target from his overall seven.

With his goal in the city derby, Santi Mina has now scored three goals in his last four games in LaLiga, with his strike versus Levante UD enough to help Valencia CF to a much-needed and very important three points.
