Valencia CF had 18 attempts on goal, their third-most in LaLiga this season

After three games without finding the back of the net, Valencia CF scored three and looked very dangerous

Valencia CF came into the local derby against Levante UD without a goal in their last three outings, after tough games against both FC Barcelona and Atletico Madrid. Marcelino and his players were aware that they were working hard, but knew that they needed to be more clinical in and around the opposition penalty area. Against their local rivals, they managed 18 shots on goal, with eight of those hitting the target, in their third-highest shots tally in LaLiga this campaign.

Only in their league clashes against UD Las Palmas (1-0), on the league’s opening match day, and during a 0-1 defeat to Villarreal CF did they manage more shots than on Sunday evening. Versus both Levante UD and Sevilla FC, Valencia CF let off 18 shots.

Santi Mina, Luciano Vietto and Dani Parejo found the back of the net in a 3-1 derby-day win, with Valencia CF also hitting the woodwork twice. Mina tried his luck the most, with seven attempts, with Carlos Soler letting fly on three occasion. Geoffrey Kondogbia and Dani Parejo had two shots each, with Vietto, Goncalo Guedes and Simone Zaza completing the ambitious group.

Their derby victory was Valencia CF’s 1,200th in the Spanish top flight, meaning that the team sits in fifth place in terms of total wins. Real Madrid (1,659), FC Barcelona (1,599), Atletico Madrid (1,256) and Athletic Bilbao (1,215).
