Valencia CF paid tribute to David Navarro ahead of kick off in the game against Real Sociedad on Sunday. The Mestalla crowd made his hairs stand on end when his name rang out in the moments leading up to kick-off.
Valencia CF paid tribute to a club career in which he lifted two LaLiga trophies (2001-02, 2003-04) a UEFA Cup (2003-04) and a European Super Cup (2004). Valencia CF’s CEO handed him a Valencia CF shirt with the number 17 on the back alongside the club’s ambassador and advisor Juan Sol and the VCF Footballers Association's Fernando Giner.
David Navarro announced his retirement as a professional footballer last December 22nd at the age of 37. The centre-back born in Puerto de Sagunto made his debut with the first team on September 19th 2001, in a UEFA Cup game against Chernomorets, playing a total of 146 games in a Valencia CF shirt, scoring 9 goals.
David Navarro attended alongside his family, saying ”I’m really happy and grateful to have experienced a moment like this” speaking on VCFradio. Juan Sol thanked him on the great work he did for the club, apart from being a great person.
