Vietto offers hard work and a competitive edge to help the team effort

Since signing for the club in January, the Argentine forward has scores four goals, a statistic only beaten by Santi Mina

Luciano Vietto arrived at Valencia CF during the winter transfer window, with his signing adding even further competition for places in attack. Marcelino has used him in 11 of the 14 games that he has been available to feature in, with the Argentine netting four goals.

After the club’s recent 2-0 win against Real Betis, Marcelino explained that his strikers “are not only valued on their goalscoring, but other actions too, as much defensively as offensively.” Rodrigo and Simone Zaza got back to scoring at Mestalla that night, but at Valencia CF the collective comes before the individual. Santi Mina and Luciano Vietto are still key personnel for the cause. While goals may not always be forthcoming, hard work and commitment are prerequisites.

Marcelino has had to share minutes between four strikers since Vietto’s arrival, and since he signed his deal he is the second-top scorer out of Valencia CF’s striking options. Santi Mina has netted six goals since January, scoring one every 125 minutes, but Vietto isn’t too far behind with one goal every 161 minutes. In terms of his goals per game ratio, he is enjoying the best run of his career with a goal coming every 2.75 matches.

Vietto returns to the Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan on Saturday, where he spent his last spell away from Atletico Madrid, and he will be going into the weekend in good shape. Fit and ready to chip in and give his contribution to the team, goals won’t be the only thing on the Argentine’s mind.
