The squad have collected the fourth-best points tally at this stage of the season in the club’s history
Valencia CF deserve a lot of credit for the working that they have been doing since Marcelino’s arrival at the club. Currently, after 28 match days, their points tally of 56 is the fourth-highest in club history at this stage of the campaign. In 2014/15, 60 points were achieved, with 58 taken in 1970/71 and 57 secured in the double-winning season.
After taking all three points in a 0-2 win against Sevilla FC this weekend, Valencia CF stretched their advantage over LaLiga’s fifth-placed club to 11 points. With just 10 games left to play, things are looking up, with the gap the biggest that it has been just Deportivo’s nine-point lead over Athletic Club in 2003/04.
Marcelino’s men also have a healthy lead over Sevilla FC in terms of goal difference, with the final 10 games of the campaign set to test whether Valencia CF can close out European football from a very promising position. The players will have Sunday off to rest, before getting back into training on Monday to prepare for their next LaLiga clash against Deportivo Alaves on March 17th at Mestalla.
