The Brazilian goalkeeper is really happy to have returned to the Brazil squad, and his move to Valencia has helped his target become a reality
As Valencia CF returned to work, Neto was beaming. He had just been chosen to join up with Brazil for their friendlies on 23rd and 27th March against Russia and Germany, a recognition of his excellent season. In an interview with VCFplay, the Brazilian keeper admits that returning to the Brazil setup was an aim of his.
What does it mean to be called up?
It comes at just the right time in my life, it reflects the good work I’m doing at the club and it makes me happy that I’m doing a good job. That’s the most important thing, because my personal target was to get into the national team thanks to my good work at Valencia CF, and they’ve given me this chance and I’m sure that none of this would have happened if it weren’t for the work I’m doing here.
Has signing for Valencia CF been a key factor?
For sure, since I arrived I’ve felt at home, and happy, and when things work like that everything flows, naturally. In your daily work that makes you improve, and to feel that happiness makes you get better in games.
How have your teammates congratulated you?
It’s been mutual happiness, we see the sacrifices that our teammates make and to have a teammate called up is a reflection of the hard work, it’s gratifying because of the sacrifices we make. It’s really hard work both physically and mentally that we’ve been doing since the start of the season, it’s not easy and we all share the same feeling.
What’s your dream for Russia?
To work and nothing more. I don’t like to think too long term, I have to think about tomorrow, and that’s the game against Deportivo Alavés, I have to improve every day to have the chance to go to Russia. It would be a dream, from when I started playing football I’ve always dreamed about playing at a World Cup and if it happens, I’d be so happy.
