Three things that you need to know ahead of Valencia CF - RCD Espanyol

Carlos Soler and Martin Montoya always win against RCD Espanyol

Although breaking down RCD Espanyol on Sunday will be tough, two Valencia CF players boast a very good record against Los Periquitos. Martin Montoya and Carlos Soler linked up very well down the right-hand side in the first game between these two sides this season, but their good fortunes stretch beyond that. Montoya has won all five of his clashes against RCD Espanyol, with two of those coming during his spell with FC Barcelona. Soler, meanwhile, has won three from three.

Gayà plays against the team that he has beaten most as a player

José Luis Gayà will be deployed at left back as usual at Mestalla on Sunday, and he will be doing so against the side that he has had the most success against since turning professional. He has faced RCD Espanyol on eight occasions, with Gayà only facing FC Barcelona (11 times) more often. From those eight matches, he has recorded six victories. Together with CD Leganés, after the win at Butarque last weekend, he has beaten no other club more frequently. Only Málaga CF and Deportivo Alavés come close with four defeats at his hands.

Vietto netted a brace against RCD Espanyol

Luciano Vietto has played against this weekend’s rival on five occasions since coming to LaLiga, and he knows what it feels like to hit the back of the net against them already. Last season he netted a brace in a 6-4 victory on the first weekend of the competition, causing RCD Espanyol plenty of problems when he turned out for Sevilla FC.
