Only a lack of cutting edge clipped Valencia CF’s wings at Camp Nou

They created more goalscoring chances than FC Barcelona, had more shots and turned in a top performance

Valencia CF fans can be nothing but proud of their team, after yet another good showing this season. It was no easy task to had to Camp Nou, the toughest stadium to visit in LaLiga, but Marcelino’s men put in yet another great performance and had the chances to beat an FC Barcelona side still remain unbeaten in the top flight. Saturday’s game highlights that things are going well, that the team can compete against anyone and that the future is bright. Valencia CF have returned to Spanish football’s top table.

Despite ending a brilliant run of form, which saw Valencia CF take eight wins from their last nine games, Marcelino’s side showed that they deserve to be in the upper reaches of the table. The team have their style set and are heading down the right path, with Champions League football within touching distance. Valencia CF had more chances than FC Barcelona and had more shots, but a lack of cutting edge and a good showing from Ter Stegen held them back. The visitors managed 17 shots, while Ernesto Valverde’s side had 12.

The defeat won’t be enough to knock the squad off their stride, with a game against Getafe CF on Saturday to come, but at Camp Nou it was clear that this Valencia CF side are strong and capable of beating any opponent. Our fans that made the trip to Barcelona showed their support after the final whistle and were incredibly proud of the players’ efforts as a great season continues to roll on.
