Gayà: “The bond with Mestalla has been key, Sunday is a special chance to secure Champions League football with them”

One of the squad’s captains has thanked the fans and wants to repay them versus SD Eibar

José Luis Gayà is back in the mix for Valencia CF’s next shot at securing Champions League football, after serving a suspension in their recent 1-1 draw with RC Celta. Gayà has spoken to VCFplay about the importance of the fans’ contribution during an excellent season, where all that remains to be done is secure Champions League football.

“At Mestalla, as has been the case all year, we have felt protected and finally they can enjoy a year where their team have been brilliant. This bond with the fans has been key this year, and therefore on Sunday against SD Eibar it is a really special chance to secure Champions League football at Mestalla. We are expecting it to be full, it is a one-off opportunity and we have to make the most of it,” he said.

Valencia CF are relying on only themselves to wrap up fourth place, regardless of whatever happens in both Real Betis and Villarreal CF’s weekend fixtures. The squad have enjoyed some magical nights at Mestalla so far this campaign, and Gayà’s aim is to have another to pay tribute to the fans’ support. “For us, all of the games have been special, from the welcomes that we have had, we have seen that everyone is with us and they have given us so much. I’m sure that we will have a great game and we will be able to celebrate Champions League football at Mestalla.”
