It’s time to be a Champions League team again

If Valencia CF beat SD Eibar they will return to Europe’s top competition and Mestalla will be right there with them

It has taken 34 games to get to this one at Mestalla this evening against SD Eibar at 18:30 CEST. It’s a fantastic situation: Valencia CF can make themselves a Champions League team again. It’s a status that befits their recent history, but after two seasons away, a celebration will be warranted. The fans deserve it! But first, to get there, we have to win.

Just imagining hearing the Champions League music in the stadium again brings a smile to your face. We miss those magical nights. Today, other results don’t matter – getting three points will be enough, and there will be nothing Real Betis or Villarreal CF can do about it. And what better way to do it than at Mestalla with the fans.

Marcelino’s team will look to make it an intense game. To beat SD Eibar you need to play fast, putting pressure on right from the off, but the rewards will be worth it. Against RC Celta we saw that what happened against Getafe CF was an anomaly, the players have learnt from it and they won’t want it to happen again. This evening it’s a different story.

Marcelino will make some changes to the team that drew at Balaídos, thanks to Garay’s suspension and the return of team captains Dani Parejo and Gayà. The coach has called up every available player, so no-one misses out. Marcelino would have called up some of the fans if he could! It will be a magical atmosphere at Mestalla, a stadium that wants to see Champions League football again.
