Valencia CF’s U17 side are runners up in the Evergrande U17 Championship tournament held in China

After a tight final against Boca Juniors, Miguel Ángel Angulo’s side lost on penalties

Despite missing out on lifting the Evergrande U17 Championship title, after playing in Guangzhou, China, Valencia CF’s U17s gave a great account of themselves before losing on penalties to Boca Juniors. At full time the scoreline stood at 1-1, but a 5-4 penalty defeat saw our youth side miss out on the trophy.

Miguel Ángel Angulo’s side had plenty of good ideas from the off, linked up well and played using vertical counter attacks. Just after the half-hour mark, Jordi Escobar had a couple of chances in quick succession, but he couldn’t make the most of his opportunities to put Valencia CF ahead. Despite performing well in the first half, Cabaña gave Boca the lead before the break.

After having a few chances to level the scoreline, Sergio Gimeno managed to do so three minutes from time, after some good work down the right-hand side in the build up. That goal took the game to extra time, with the two sides then unable to separate themselves to avoid a penalty shootout. Boca managed to come out on top 5-4.

Miguel Ángelo Angulo started with Guillermo, Jorge Ruiz, Víctor Bastardo, Sergio Gimeno, Gastón Alonso, Nacho Ferrer, Pablo Gozalbez, Gerard Moya, Nacho Muñoz, Rubén Zaza and Jordi Escobar. Pablo Guimerá, Javier Berenguer and Francisco Pérez came off the bench.
