Valencia CF celebrated their Champions League qualification with a draw against Al-Nassr FC (0-0)

Marcelino lined up the entire travelling squad

Valencia CF were back in action on Wednesday overseas to take on Al-Nassr in a testimonial game to pay tribute to the ex-footballer Fahad Al Hurifi as part of the LaLiga World programme at the Prince Faisal Bin Fahad Stadium in Riyadh in a game that saw its duration reduced to 30 minutes per half due to adverse weather conditions.

Four academy graduates got a chance to start in Saudi Arabia, with young central midfielder Gonzalo Villar making his debut after replacing the absent Nemanja Maksimovic just before the tour. The first chance of the game fell to Simone Zaza on five minutes but it was pushed away by the keeper. Four minutes later Rodrigo tried his luck from the half-way line but it went wide as the team tried to push for an early goal.

Fahad Al Hurifi was brought off on the halfway mark in the first half.  Former star player Alessandro Del Piero struck the ball from long range but it went over the bar with only two minutes of normal time left to play. The official brought the half to a halt, finishing goalless at the break.

Marcelino shuffled the starting line-up completely in order to share the minutes between the travelling squad ahead of their LaLiga game, as the sweltering weather conditions were having an impact, as well as the sandstorm.

Both teams kept going until the final whistle trying to get the match-winning goal, but the scoreline remained unchanged and it finished honours even.
