A Valencia CF team containing lots of home-grown talent

For the first time in LaLiga, six players born in the Valencia region featured in a single league fixture for VCF

One of the key pillars of the club’s project is the VCF Academy. At Montilivi on Saturday, six players born in the Valencia region featured: Jaume, Toni Lato, Carlos Soler, Ferran Torres, Gayà and Nacho Vidal. During the current campaign, the record has been set by Marcelino at seven, with Rober Ibáñez and Nacho Gil also getting some minutes on top of those previously mentioned in the Copa del Rey against Real Zaragoza on November 30th 2017.

A few days ago, club president Anil Murthy explained that “we will be working to promote top-level football in the youth academy and to for it to feed Valencia CF in both 10 and 100 years’ time. The academy is already very powerful, we have a lot o quality and we are going to strengthen it further.” Marcelino provided the actions after the words.

During this LaLiga season, previously only five Valencia-born players had featured. On both match day two versus Real Madrid and match day six versus Real Madrid, five were involved, with this weekend’s action versus Girona FC the first time that it has been bettered. Marcelino always has a lot of home-grown players involved, with only match days 17 and 19 seeing a mere one out on the pitch.
