In the last two seasons where the club won the league, they hit 75 and 77 points
After victory against RC Deportivo (2-1), Valencia CF hit the 73-point mark in LaLiga, with the history books showing that it is a tough feat given that the club have matched the fourth-best points tally in their whole existence. At Mestalla on Sunday, in front of 35,376 spectators, Marcelino’s men took their 22nd win in the league and put the icing on the cake at the end of a terrific season which has seen them secure Champions League football.
With the exception of the 1995/96 campaign, where the season was 42 games long and the club managed to amass 83 points, the points tally from this campaign has only been bettered on three occasions. Two of those saw Valencia CF lift the league title (2001/02 and 2003/04) with 77 and 75 points respectively, with the club also capable of replicating the latter in 2014/15.
The squad wanted to end their fantastic season on a high and goals from Zaza and Guedes saw that from Monday, the club can look forward to their next exciting step forward. What a great season Marcelino’s men have had!
