The players that helped us return to the Champions League: Jaume Doménech

He is one of the squad’s captains and became a real hero against Deportivo Alavés in the Copa del Rey

“He is a really hard-working lad, he is a Valencia CF fan, he is always encouraging his teammates and looking to do things for the good of the team. He is the type of player that every coach would want in his group.” Marcelino speaks only positive words about Jaume Doménech, one of Valencia CF’s captains, whenever he is asked of him.

First starting in the team’s Copa del Rey fixtures, the VCF goalkeeper also went on to make five appearances in LaLiga. It isn’t too common that the manager looking to give minutes to two goalkeepers during a league campaign, but Marcelino decided that it was only fair. After Jaume first started against Real Sociedad at Anoeta, with his coach proud of the groups’ efforts, “saying so is easy, but the way to show it is with facts and through making decisions.”

On one evening away from Mestalla, Jaume had one of his biggest moments in the quarter finals of the Copa del Rey against Deportivo Alavés, where he became a hero during a penalty shootout. “I enjoy shootouts,” he admitted, after helping his side secure safe passage to the semis.

Always with his grandfather in mind, who used to take him to training on his motorbike when he was first starting out to try and achieve his footballing dream, Jaume has had an important role in the team. As he has said himself, however, “in our Valencia CF side, success is down to everyone’s collective work. Thank you to the fans for your support. Our bond has made us stronger.”
