The Italian forward has had his best ever goalscoring season in top-flight football
He has an eye for goal, and when he gets on the pitch he is a different person. Simone Zaza is kind, educated and makes plenty of jokes, but when he sets foot on the turf he battles, never gives up on any ball and connects with the fans.
Zaza opened up the season with a goal in the first game against UD Las Palmas, and finished the campaign with another strike against RC Deportivo. In doing so, he racked up a tally of 13 goals in 33 games, his best record yet in top-flight football.
After a fantastic start to the campaign, Zaza was named LaLiga’s Player of the Month for September. During these early weeks, he also scored his first professional hat trick during a 5-0 victory over Malaga CF at Mestalla. Since then, he has scored a few braces, but another hat trick has evaded him.
Together with Santi Mina, Rodrigo and Luciano Vietto, Zaza has helped to form part of the most prolific forward line that Valencia CF have had in recent years. The majority of his goals (10) were scored at Mestalla, where the fans have their own song just for him. His performances have been enough to see him return to the fold for the Italian national team, too.
