Valencia CF now know the revenue that will be handed out in the 2018/19 Champions League

The Mestalla club will receive 15.25 million euros for participating in the group stage alone

Valencia CF return, three seasons later, to the prestigious and increasingly valuable Champions League, which has substantially increased the income for participating clubs in the 2018/19 season, a fact now confirmed by UEFA. It will be a showcase for the Mestalla club on the international stage, but as always, since the arrival of Marcelino, the aim will be to go step-by-step, game-by-game.

The club will receive 15.25 million euros simply for participating in the forthcoming Champions League, as well as 900,000 euros for each draw and 2.7 million euros for each win in the group stage.

If the Mestalla club go through to the last 16, they will receive a further 9.5 million euros. A quarter-final appearance would mean another 10.5 million, and 12 million more would be earned by getting to the semi-finals. As for the Champions League Final, which will be held at the Wanda Metropolitano, the finalists will receive 15 million euros each, while the winner gets another four million. In addition, the Champions League winner, who will go on to play in the UEFA Super Cup, will receive 3.5 million euros for that, and the Super Cup winner will be handed a further million euros.

Valencia CF currently occupy 24th place in the club rankings for the last ten years of European competition, and UEFA refer to that ranking in distributing the income between the participating clubs.

292 million euros to be handed out in the ‘market pool’

In addition, 292 million euros are allocated to the ‘market pool’ which are then distributed according to the proportional value of each television market represented by the clubs which take part in the UEFA Champions League (group stage onwards). These amounts are distributed between the participating clubs of each federation.

However, the amounts distributed from the ‘market pool’ to each club, according to UEFA, can only be calculated once all the contracts have come to an end, and not before the competition is concluded, as the exact amounts for each club depend on five factors:

1) Final amount in the ‘market pool’.

2) The composition of clubs participating in the UEFA Champions League 2018/19.

3) The number of clubs from each federation taking part in the UEFA Champions League 2018/19.

4) The final position of each club the previous season in their national league.

5) The performance of each club in the UEFA Champions League 2018/19.
