The players that helped us return to the Champions League… Gayà

The left back has had his best season yet in professional football

Jose Gayà has been working hard without the need to say anything, while playing as though he has been in the top flight for his whole life. Having just turned 23 years of age, the VCF left back has enjoyed his best season yet at the top level, showing that he is key at Valencia CF despite his age.

This season, Gayà has featured in 38 games in LaLiga, racking up 3,300 minutes between the league and the Copa del Rey. While he has been solid in defence, he has ensured that he has contributed in attack too. This has been reflected through his direct involvement in five goals, providing three assists and winning two penalties for the team. On top of that, he has been one of the wide players in LaLiga to have put the most crosses into the box.

Gayà has also grown in terms of his leadership, becoming one of the four captains for the squad alongside Dani Parejo, Rodrigo Moreno and Jaume Domenech.

At the close of the campaign, he put pen to paper on a contract renewal with the club that stretches until 2023, with a 100 million euro release clause included. “I am very happy to be at home,” he told VCF Play. Next season, he will remain at home for the club’s return to the UEFA Champions League, as well as for Valencia CF’s 100-year anniversary. “I trust a lot in this ambitious and exciting project,” he said.
