First LaLiga defeat for VCF versus RCDE (2-0)

Valencia CF played against RCD Espanyol in the RCDE Stadium on Saturday, August 26th at 18:15 (CET) kick-off time on match day 2 of LaLiga Santander. Valencia CF had a good start to the game.

The first chance for Valencia CF came in the 11th-minute mark in the game that was saved by Diego López.

Valencia CF had the first VAR call of the season in the 17th minute when Carlos Soler and Santi Mina combined and the shot of the Galician hit a defender but the referee allowed play to continue.

RCD Espanyol had the clearest chance of the first half in the 33rd minute but the Brazilian goalkeeper saved it brilliantly to keep it 0-0 for Valencia CF. Valencia CF responded five minutes later with a long-range shot by Soler that went high.

The first half ended scoreless at half-time.

Both teams started the second half trying to get the first goal with RCD Espanyol creating the chances.  Mouctar Diakhaby had the first chance came for Mouctar Diakhaby from a corner kick in the 50th minute.

VAR appeared again in the 62nd minute to confirm that the free kick by Esteban Granero had crossed the line. Marcelino introduced Denis Cheryshev trying to change things but six minutes later, Borja Iglesias made it 2-0 for RCD Espanyol.

Marcelino introduced both Kevin Gameiro and Michy Batshuayi for Santi Mina and Rodrigo Moreno as the team kept on trying and trying but it was not to be and the game finished 2-0 for RCD Espanyol.

Valencia CF will play the Valencia derby against Levante at the Ciutat de Valencia on Sunday, August 3rd at 12:00.

Observations:

Match day 2 of Laliga played on Sunday at 18:15 in the RCDE Stadium in front of more than a hundred Valencianistas. There was a minute silence in the memory of all RCDE Club members and other representatives that died during last season.
