Match Report: Scoreless regional derby (0-0)

Valencia CF and Villarreal CF played each other on Sunday, September 23rd at 16:15 on Matchday 5 of LaLiga Santander in the Estadio de La Cerámica. Valencia CF tried to get the first LaLiga win of the season in the regional derby.

Valencia CF had a good start playing their football. Gabriel Paulista had the first chance of the game from a corner kick but he sent it wide.  Both teams shared the ball with very little going on in the areas.

Denis Cherysev had the last chance of the first half with a shot from outside the area that wide. The first half in the Estadio de La Cerámica finished scoreless with all still to play for in the second half.

Marcelino made a half-time change when Santi Mina was substituted by Michy Batshuayi. As Valencia CF had a better second-half start. Marcelino introduced Gonçalo Guedes minutes later substituting Ferran Torres.

Valencia CF had two red cards shown to both Parejo and Marcelino in the 60th minute of the match. Long-term injured player, Francis Coquelin substituted Kevin Gameiro in the 61st minute.

Gonçalo Guedes had the first chance of the second half of with a powerful shot from outside the area. Twelve minutes later his team-mate, Cheryshev followed with another powerful shot that was also saved by Asenjo.

The regional derby finished scoreless between Villarreal and Valencia CF. Valencia CF will play versus Celta de Vigo on Wednesday at 22:00h CET.

Observations: Matchday 5 of LaLiga, played in the Cerámica stadium in front of 850 Valencianistas. The president of the Generalitat Valenciana, Ximo Puig, watched the match.
