Valencia CF lose out to CD Alavés (2-1)

Parejo scored a delightful free-kick goal but the hosts came back from behind to win it.

 

 

Valencia CF played against Deportivo Alavés on Saturday at 4.15pm kick-off time at Mendizorrotza on matchday 18 of LaLiga Santander looking to be off to a winning start to the Centenary year.

Valencia CF had a positive start to the game in the opening minutes in wintery weather conditions in Vitoria. Dani Parejo broke the deadlock with an absolute rocket of a free kick from 22 yards out to give Valencia CF the lead.

Seven minutes later, Boja Bastón cancelled out Parejo’s opener from a corner kick scrambling it beyond Neto Murara from half a yard out to make it 1-1. Valencia CF kept on trying through Piccini and Rodrigo Moreno’s effort which fizzed just wide of the post after a great link-up play with Santi Mina.

CD Alavés got themselves back in front in the dying seconds of the half through Tomás Pina after hitting the post and a great goalkeeping from Neto. The first half finished 2-1 to CD Alavés with a goal beyond extra time.

Valencia CF came out in the second half looking to score. Marcelino introduced  Ferran Torres for Daniel Wass and Michi Batshuayi for Toni Lato. Mina had the first two shots at goal in a shot shy half by Valencia CF in a quiet second period.

The match finished 1-2 Valencia CF will visit Sporting Gijon in the first leg of the last 16 in the Copa del Rey on Tuesday 8th of January at El Molinon looking to get their first victory of the Centenary year.
