Parejo: "I'm very happy here"

The first words from the Valencia CF captain following his contract extension

Dani Parejo spoke exclusively to VCF MEDIA following the announcement of his contract extension, and also received some words of congratulations from those close to him.

"I'm happy with everything. This is a special year for everyone at Valencia CF, because it is the Centenary year. Things hadn't been working out as best they could, but I think that now, with our hard work and sacrifice, which we've been making since the start of the season, it appears that we are reaping the rewards. I've always said that, whatever happens, I will always be the same person on and off the pitch, and try to help my teammates," said the captain on Monday after the official confirmation of his renewal.

"The easy thing to do would have been to give up or relax, or let time go by, but I think that the team deserve a lot of credit for believing in the coaching staff and in ourselves in every training session. In the end, it's bearing fruit," Parejo continued.

"I've renewed my contract because my teammates did their part as well. They help me. Without them, I wouldn't be anyone. I'm grateful to them. I'm at the right club to win, or at least to fight to reach finals."

"I'm very happy here, and besides two years I've spent my entire professional career at Valencia CF. I owe a lot to the club, my children are from here and I told my agents that I was happy here, felt important and was at an incredible club. It isn't easy to spend eight years at a single club, especially with how demanding it is to play for a club like Valencia CF."

There were also tributes from two former teammates, who wanted to congratulate Parejo on his new deal. Mario Suárez sent a video message proclaiming the midfielder to be "The franchise player," adding that "I know you are happy there, after going through some bad times that you didn't deserve. You are a great player and should be called up for Spain again."

Sergio Canales, who will see Parejo when Valencia CF and Real Betis meet in the Copa del Rey semifinal this week, said that "You deserve this renewal. You've always given your all. You're one of my best friends and both my familiy and I are very pleased about your renewal."
